In Greek mythology, Styx is a river that forms the boundary between earth and the underworld. The river is named after the Greek goddess Styx, who gave the water miraculous powers. According to mythology, a ferryman named Charon escorts souls across the River Styx to the afterlife.
Styx was also the goddess of magic, the moon, and ghosts—an alluring muse for an autumn romance. In this enchanting editorial, we imagine what might have been had Styx met Charon and perhaps used a little of her magic to steal his heart, then cross the river and run away together to a life everlasting.
The talented vendor team—all of whom are LGBTQ+ and culturally inclusive—utilized the perfectly understated romance of Meadow Creek Farm in northern Alabama to set the tone for a secret and—dare we say—otherworldly elopement, captured by Brittanie Wichael Photography. Velvet touches and jewel-toned glassware from Something Vintage Rentals elevate the intimate tablescape as flickering candles illuminate the lovers’ radiant joy.
