For a brief moment during my 7th year of life I fantasized about my wedding colors, which would be peach and teal. I distinctly remember that this fantasy—featuring a color palette directly inspired by the booths at the local Dairy Queen—crystallized at the mall while flipping through the enormous wedding dress pattern books at Jo-Ann's Fabrics, back when the name was still hyphenated and the store sold only fabric, patterns, and sewing paraphernalia.

The wedding fantasy swiftly dissolved and was left behind in the mall parking lot. It seemed too intangible to my 7-year-old brain that one day I'd be carrying a bouquet of peach-colored roses in front of the people at my church, wearing a bulky dress that seemed exhausting to pin together and create.

All that to say, if my 7-year-old self had known what an elopement was, I sure as hell would've rather been planning that.

Cheers to everyone out there making the nontraditional not just the norm, but the dream.

If you're thinking of having an outdoor wedding (because, well, you know) sometimes the most intimate and memorable celebrations happen right at home (especially if you're blessed with a backyard like this) ✨ But if your outdoor space looks more like a fire escape than this stunning setup, consider renting an Airbnb, which is considerably cheaper than most traditional venues, has plenty of Getting Ready Space, and offers guests a place to crash if need be.
